SABR Day Celebration: Bob Davids Chapter

SABR Day Celebration: Bob Davids Chapter

9 9 people viewed this event.

SABR Day is a way for all baseball fans to come together, regardless of where they live, and talk about the game we all love. Regional chapters are also encouraged to plan their own SABR Day events (virtually or in person) throughout the months of January or February to celebrate the start of a new baseball season.

It’s time for the hot stove to really heat up at the Bob Davids Chapter Annual SABR Day Meeting! All baseball fans are welcome to attend. We have a full day of baseball planned:

  • Jane Leavy, author of the recently-released book “Make Me Commissioner: I Know What’s Wrong With Baseball and How to Fix It”, as well as books on Mickey Mantle, Sandy Koufax, and Babe Ruth.  She will also be selling and signing her new book.
  • Gerardo Caceres, hitting coach for James Wood and others, on what he does with hitters and the revolution in hitting over the last few years
  • Alexandria Aces owner Frank Fannon and official scorer Emily-Anne Patt on how a summer wooden-bat collegiate team is run and put together
  • Tom “Big Bat” Fesolowich, Advisor, National Association of Historic Base Ball Clubs, on vintage baseball and where to see it locally
  • Ben Orlando, podcast host of Midnight Library of Baseball, on his podcast and how a podcast is put together
  • Cesar Brioso, author of “Last Seasons in Havana: The Castro Revolution and the End of Professional Baseball in Cuba”, which won a 2020 SABR Baseball Research Award, on Cuban baseball
  • Research presentations from chapter members
  • A baseball card Wax Pack rip (packs provided!)
  • Our usual raffle of baseball books and other items
